How we work!
One of the core functions underpinning its establishment is supporting the needy in the society, as a way of empowering them and thus being able to bring out the best in them, as well as helping the less- fortunate and the extremely poor, gain a livelihood – our demographic focus is the youth in Butere. We work through donors, well wishers and volunteers, helping us to reach many children that are in really need of help and support.
We work with very needy children!
Our History
The formation of the foundation is inspired by the incredible story of our founder Mr. Valentine Opembe Malika. Born a second born in a family of three, in May, 1990, his father passed on when he was only 3 years old, and his mother when he was just 8 years old. Luckily he had his grandparents to take care of them. To add to his blessings, Mr. Malika was subsequently recruited by a Christian NGO called Compassion International – Kenya as a beneficiary.
It is attributed to his generous heart of giving back that while he was a student at the University through his small businesses of photography, printing & photocopy and occasional sale of second-hand clothes that he shouldered high school fees for his two cousins who joined high school in 2012 and 2013 respectively and successfully completed the same through the full support of Mr. Opembe Malika. It is the willingness to give back to society and lift others as he was, that gave birth to the formation of The Opembe Malika Foundation.

Real life stories transformed !

After I completed my class eight exams at Mariaini primary, I passed very well. I was position 1 with 377 marks out of 500. Despite my good performance, my future looked bleak. I did not know if I would get a chance to further my studies because of the poor situation at home. I was informed about The Opembe Malika Foundation, and I decided to try my luck and by Gods grace I was enrolled in the sponsorship program. Kiroko Foundation paid my high school fees and today, I have completed my high school education at Chania Boys. I’m patiently waiting for my results and very certain that my future and that of my family will be much better. Thank you, Kiroko Foundation.

My name is Mwangi Victor. I am at Kiaguthu Boys Secondary School and headed to form three. I come from a very needy background because my parents are small-scale farmers who cannot afford my school fees. I did very well in my primary exams, but my parents could not afford school fees for my high school. Kiroko Foundation stepped in to pay for my school fees and I am headed to form three in one of the best schools in Murang’a country. I thank the opembe malika Foundation for their support this far and promise to work had and uplift my family and the community.

When my K.C.P.E results came out, I was the top of my school, and I was among the best in the County. I was given an admission letter to one of the best schools in the country- Chania High School but unfortunately my parents could not afford it. It was painful to see my mother shed tears because she could not afford to take me to high school. My mother approached The opembe Malika Foundation and my request for scholarship support was accepted. Today, I am headed to form two and I can’t thank God enough for this intervention. Thank you, Kiroko Foundation, for stepping in. My future looks bright.

The resource center that was established by The opembe Malika Foundation at Mariani primary has impacted our community very positively. It is a great joy to see high school students and members of the community streaming into the resource center to study and get informed. That means in the next few years the community will be more knowledgeable and informed.
